In July, mere months before Goodall’s passing, she spent three weeks in Tanzania with Dax Dasilva, the founder of the environmental nonprofit Age of Union. Jane Goodall was in Tanzania three months before her death at 91, and Dax Dasilva was with her there. He had also traveled with her to the Brazilian Amazon in 2023.

Dax Dasilva started software company Lightspeed in 2005 out of a Montreal triplex and grew it into a business valued at billions of dollars. After stepping down as CEO earlier this year, he’s been doubling down on his efforts to combat the climate crisis with his non-profit, Age of Union.

Mr. Dasilva has donated $40-million to set up Age of Union, which will fund environmental protection projects in Canada and around the world.
